For the second year running, Blue Flame will be supporting the Trussell Trust to support their Food Bank initiative this Christmas. Collecting items kindly donated by staff and customers, Blue Flame will deliver goods to food banks throughout Cornwall, who rely on public donations to support the rising need for emergency food support.
As Cornwall’s leading provider of heating, renewable and electrical company, their staff spend a significant amount of time in homes across the county. Spending this time speaking directly to their customers, Blue Flame understands how vital the food banks are to so many within our communities and have chosen to make their food bank appeal an annual occurrence.
In total, last year, more than 600 food items were donated to the food banks via Blue Flame - an incredible achievement and one which definitely improved Christmas for so many struggling families.
And this year, the company is looking to increase their efforts by starting the collection earlier and working with partners to provide alternative locations for customers to drop their items off at. This means they can support more locations and help people throughout the county.
Already signed up to the initiative are Blue Flame customers, The Harbour Hotels in Padstow St Ives and and Fowey, all of whom have agreed to accept donations, which our engineers will collect on a weekly basis and deliver to the local food banks in Wadebridge, Helston & Lizard, and Liskeard & Looe respectively. The team will also deliver any donations that come in directly to Blue Flame to the Penryn & Falmouth foodbank. However, they are keen to cover as much of the county as possible and so are actively welcoming anyone else who wishes to take part to reach out to Blue Flame to join in the efforts.
In addition, as per last year, engineers will be collecting items kindly donated by customers during their home visits with the option to also drop goodies off at their offices up to, and including Friday 20 December.
Blue Flame Managing Director Matt Dennison said, “After the success of our food bank efforts last year, we were determined to do it again. Supporting our customers with basic essentials such as staying warm, maintaining hygiene, and, most importantly, providing hot, nutritious meals for themselves and their families is at the heart of what we do as an organisation. Knowing that so many people across the county struggle to provide meals for their families at this time year is heartbreaking, and it motivates us to do what we can to make a difference.”
“We do, on average, 2,500 domestic jobs in the months of November and December so even if every household donated just one item of food from their cupboard, that would make a massive difference.”
With one in five of the UK population living below the poverty line, donations via initiatives such as this are absolutely vital. The Trussell Trust runs the largest network of food banks in the UK, providing endless emergency food support to those in crisis. And it’s not just food items, there is also the option to donate new toys and presents enabling parents in need to ensure there is a gift under the tree for their children this Christmas.
The Blue Flame team will be dropping off collections to the food bank every Thursday from 1pm until the food bank closes for Christmas on 20th December. The team simply requests that any food donated is long-life and in-date. The food bank also accepts toiletries and a list of what they need is regularly updated on their website for any members of the public wishing to show their support.
